What are the benefits of a gingivectomy?

Benefits of a gingivectomy in Turkey include:

  • The diseased gum tissue is permanently removed.
  • The depth of the periodontal pocket is reduced.
  • Gum disease is stopped and controlled.
  • Helps maintain good oral hygiene.
  • The gummy smile is repaired.
  • Helps to preserve teeth and bones.

What is periodontal disease?

Periodontal disease is considered a serious condition because it affects not only your gums, but also the bone that holds your tooth root. It starts with gingivitis and progresses to a bacterial infection that can lead to tooth loss and gum recession. Symptoms can include:

  • Gum bleeding.
  • Bone loss detected by x-ray.
  • Gingival recession.
  • Pus or clear fluid flowing from the gums.

If gingivitis progresses, plaque and tartar can spread into the natural pocket between the ridge of the gum line and the tooth enamel, leading to inflammation. Inflammation widens the thin spaces that naturally occur between the tooth and the gum. This widening allows more bacteria to attack the sensitive tissues along the outer surface of the root, creating severe damage if left unchecked. The only way to stop the progression of gum disease is with a gingivectomy. In some cases, a gingivoplasty is used to reshape the gum to aid in treatment.

The difference

What is the difference between gingivectomy and gingivoplasty?

Both surgeries involve the removal of gum tissue. The main difference between the two procedures is that a gingivectomy removes diseased gum tissue surrounding a periodontal pocket while a gingivoplasty is performed to reshape the gum tissue usually for cosmetic reasons.

A gingivoplasty may be performed in combination with a gingivectomy.

How it works

How does a gingivectomy procedure work in Turkey?

Gingivectomy is performed in Turkey with complete safety and comfort for the patient. The steps involved are as follows:

Your teeth will be cleaned to completely remove plaque and tartar from the treatment area using periodontal scaling and root planing.

A local anesthetic will be applied to numb the area to keep the patient comfortable during the procedure.

The dentist removes gum tissue contributing to disease or will create a more aesthetically pleasing appearance to your gums. It only takes a few minutes. He determines the depth of periodontal pockets using a probe to guide us to where incisions will be needed. Pockets are measured in millimeters.

He removes only the gum tissue at a 45-degree angle to the tooth to ensure that only diseased tissue is taken. This cut is " apical."

Once the diseased tissue is cut and removed, the remaining gums are reattached around the teeth with stitches, and the area is cleaned with saline and specific mouthwashes. Finally, he places a surgical dressing over the gum tissue.

Gum surgery is performed with a surgical scalpel; however, in some cases, a low-frequency laser may be used instead.

Why choose laser gingivectomy for periodontal disease?

Oral laser treatments are the ideal solution for fighting periodontal disease. They eliminate bacteria in deep residual pockets. This reduces the risk of reinfection. High-precision targeting with the laser helps maintain more of your healthy tissue.

The best control of the surgical procedure is achieved by using the laser to adjust power levels for different levels of periodontal disease.

There is less bleeding with laser treatments because they seal wounds at the same time they cut them. This means there is also less swelling and trauma, which reduces the healing time required.

What care

What care is needed after a gingivectomy?

Most patients can resume a normal oral care routine in less than a month after surgery.

Use of an antibacterial mouthwash can help with the healing process.

Routine checkups with your dentist will ensure the success of the surgery. The dentist who performed the surgery will likely follow up with visits every three months, and then at least one visit twice a year to clean the surgical site and surrounding area.
